Astro-Modules are the result of R&D work carried out under the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) competition, “Fast Track – Space Technologies,” and were co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund under the Smart Growth Operational Programme. As part of this endeavor, Astronika developed a set of three comprehensive, standardized systems for small and medium satellites. 

ASTRO-MODULE 1  

A universal solar panel deployment system for small and medium satellites, synchronized, fully mechanical, with a spring driving system, actuated with Astronika’s 16kN HDRA. The solar array deployment mechanisms uses an in-house passive spring-actuated deployment system and can be used with different solar panel sizes, with one or two HDRM configurations.

ASTRO-MODULE 2 

A separation mechanism for satellites, designed for payloads of up to 150 kg. The mechanism has a size of 19 inches and a mass of 7 kg. It features a low-shock deployment system based on Astronika’s HDRA and can be tailored to client needs. The separation system is designed to withstand static loads of up to 60 kNm. These loads are reduced using a V-band clamp system and further adjusted with a toothed belt and lever. The total gear ratio of the entire mechanism is 300:1.

ASTRO-MODULE 3 

 

A universal deployable boom based on metallic spring tape technology, with a stowed volume of 1Ux2U and a deployed length of up to 3 m. The fully mechanical spring-actuated design includes a universal interface for sensors and camera. It can be used in a four-unit configuration for sails with a size of up to 18m2.
